A kids snack board is an easy way to get your little ones excited to try new and healthy foods! Here’s exactly how to make one that your kids will love.
Almost every kids loves snacks. Honestly, I think my kids would live off of snacks if I would let them! But sometimes they are just not excited about the healthy snack that I attempt to add in the rotation. This is where snack boards come in. A snack board is basically like a charcuterie board, but instead of using meat and fancy cheese, you use different types of snack foods. These definitely don’t have to be for kids, but for this post I’m going to show you how to make one that your kids will love!
We recently had some little friends over for a play date. After a while, everyone was hungry for a snack. I didn’t have enough of one snack food for everyone, so I pulled out what I had. I arranged the crackers, fruit and cheese on one big plate instead of giving them each individual ones. Not only was this easier for me, but it was amazing how much this excited everyone to be sharing this huge plate of snack food. It was all gone within minutes!
Here is exactly how to create a healthy kids snack board everyone will love.
Healthy Kids Snack Board
Step 1. Find a board or tray
Choose a large tray or board to put the snack food on. I used this large cookie sheet for my board. Kids don’t really care as long as it’s not their normal plates!
Step 2. Take out small bowls
If you plan to add any dips or spreads to your board you’ll need to find a few small bowls. You could use ramekins, small storage bowls or any other small dish you may have.
Step 3. Look in your pantry and fridge
Most likely, you already have some snack foods you can incorporate into the board hiding in your pantry or refrigerator. Things like apples, bananas or oranges are great to add some color and nutrition to your board. If you have peanuts, chocolate chips or raisins those are great to fill in empty spaces on the kids snack board.
Step 4. Pick your snacks
Purchase the additional snack food you want to add to your board. Here are some ideas that are always a hit:
- Crackers
- Yogurt covered pretzels
- Cheese slices or cubes
- Fruit (strawberries, blueberries, grapes)
- Sweet potato chips
- Apple sauce pouch
- Popcorn
- Hummus
- Veggies (carrots, cucumbers)
- Baby dill pickles
- Teddy Grahams
- Energy Balls (see recipe below)
Step 4. Arrange your food
I like to place the bowls on the board first and then work around them. Place any cheese and crackers that you want laid out in a specific way first. Next, place any other large fillers (like the apple sauce pouches in my example). Fill in with other snack foods that are fillers or can’t really be set out an a design (popcorn, pita chips, goldfish, etc.). Finally, add any foods that are refrigerated so they stay cold right until serving.
Step 5. Dig in!
Now, let the kids enjoy! I was able to put this simple snack board together in about 5 minutes. Next time your crunched for time and looking for a fun way to serve snacks, try this quick kids snack board!
